The exhibition “Le Mal Gardé” in Association NOEMI - Espace Brownstone
“Le Mal Gardé”, the first solo exhibition in Paris by renowned Cuban artist Reynier Leyva Novo. Known for his politically charged, multidisciplinary practice, Novo offers a poetic and provocative reflection on memory, history, and resistance.

At the heart of the exhibition is the eponymous work Le Mal Gardé, a fragile composition made from dust collected from the graves of iconic and rebellious figures buried in Père-Lachaise Cemetery—including Baudelaire, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Nerval, Gautier, and Jim Morrison. The piece is both a homage and a meditation on impermanence and intellectual rebellion.

Reynier Leyva Novo
Cuban contemporary artist
Reynier Leyva Novo (born 1983 in Havana, Cuba) is a leading conceptual and multimedia artist whose work critically examines power, history, and collective memory through minimalist yet thought-provoking forms. Trained at San Alejandro Academy and the Instituto Superior de Arte, Novo uses anthropological research and innovative techniques—like software that calculates the physical weight of ideological texts—to deconstruct authoritarian symbols, as seen in his notable series The Weight of History . His projects extend to immersive installations, sculptures, paintings, and video, often addressing monuments, nationalism, and migration.
